We exist because the system is complicated
And people deserve better than confusion when they need support.
How this started
urban-glade began in 2019 when our founder, Sarah Chen, spent four months helping her mother navigate the Carer Payment system. Sarah had a law degree and experience with government documentation. It still took four months.
During that process, she met dozens of other people in Centrelink waiting rooms. People who'd been trying for longer. People who'd given up. People who'd been rejected on technicalities and didn't know how to appeal.
The pattern was clear: the support existed, but accessing it required expertise most people didn't have.
What we learned
In the first year, we helped 147 people. We learned that the biggest barriers weren't eligibility. They were clarity, documentation, and timing.
Someone would qualify for Disability Support Pension but didn't know to request specific medical reports. Or they'd submit a JobSeeker application without the right employment separation certificate. Small omissions that triggered automatic rejections.
We also learned that people didn't need us to do everything. They needed someone to explain what "evidence of care" actually meant. To clarify whether their rental arrangement counted as "boarding" or "independent living." To confirm they were on the right track before submitting.
Our role isn't to replace government services. It's to translate them into language that makes sense.
Who we work with
Our clients range from people applying for their first benefit to those managing multiple ongoing programs. Some are dealing with sudden disability. Others are caring for aging parents while working full-time. Many are navigating unemployment in an economy that's anything but stable.
What they have in common: they're all entitled to support, and they all hit the same bureaucratic walls.
We don't have a typical client. We have people who need help with a system that wasn't designed to be user-friendly.
Our approach
We don't promise miracles. We don't guarantee approvals. What we guarantee is that when you work with us, your application will be complete, accurate, and submitted correctly.
That sounds basic. It should be. But in a system where a missing signature or an incorrect checkbox can delay your payment by weeks, basic matters.
We also don't upsell. If you only need an eligibility assessment, we tell you. If your situation is straightforward enough to handle yourself with our free resources, we'll say that too. Our business model relies on repeat clients and referrals, which means actually helping people, not maximizing per-client revenue.
Our team
We're a small group. Three advisors with backgrounds in social work, legal aid, and public administration. One client support coordinator who manages communications and follow-ups. And Sarah, who still reviews every complex case personally.
We're not a call center. When you reach out, you talk to someone who knows your case. When we say we'll follow up, you get an email with actual updates, not generic status messages.
This model doesn't scale infinitely, which is fine. We'd rather help 500 people well than 5,000 people poorly.
Why we charge for this
It's a fair question. Social benefits are meant to help people who need financial support. Why add another cost?
The honest answer: because expertise takes time, and time costs money. Our advisors spend hours reviewing each case, researching current policy updates, and corresponding with clients. We can't do that for free and stay operational.
What we can do is price our services below what most migration agents or legal consultants charge, keep our fee structure transparent, and never charge unless we're adding real value.
For people who genuinely can't afford our services, we offer a limited number of pro bono slots each quarter. It's not advertised because demand would overwhelm capacity, but if cost is a genuine barrier, mention it when you contact us.
What we believe
That accessing government support shouldn't require a law degree.
That rejections should come with clear explanations, not form letters.
That people who've paid taxes their entire working lives deserve help when they need it, without jumping through bureaucratic hoops designed to discourage claims.
We can't change the system. But we can help you navigate it successfully. And for now, that's what we're here to do.
